This research project was conducted to better understand the material properties of bioplastics created from chitosan in order to investigate possible use as a building material. Shell waste has been a sore point within our recycling and landfill system as it provides limited economic value compared to other recyclable materials, specifically in the Bay Area. Often shell waste is sent to the landfill without any further processing, where it could start emitting methane.  Bioplastics created from Chitosan have started to become common in the packaging industry, however, they have yet to enter the building industry.
